Workshop

Structure in Action is a one-day workshop. It combines Pat Hastings’ Puppy Puzzle Presentation, as well as Hastings’ discussion of the value of structurally evaluating adult dogs that are being considered for a breeding program, working trials or performance competition, along with a veterinarians perspective on how to reduce the risk of structural injuries in working and performance dogs.

  • How to evaluate the structural quality of puppies
  • The basics of canine structure
  • The weakest links
  • How to Evaluate the structural quality of your adult dog
  • What your dog can do and should not be doing
  • A vet’s ideas on how to strengthen structure and reduce the risk of injury
  • Questions and hands-on work with attendees’ dogs


    Evaluations will take place on Saturday August 30th 15-20 minute sessions in a learning environment - Limited to 20 dogs

"Dog ticks invasion into Interior Alaska: How to prevent tick infestations and disease transmission to your pets, home and family."

Dr. Kimberlee Beckman, wildlife veterinarian with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game will present how the State of Alaska's Wildlife Health and Disease Surveillance program with the help of veterinarians and biologists statewide, detected the introduction of dog ticks and other parasites to Alaska. Highlighted will be the American Dog Tick and the Brown Dog Tick that are infecting pets, people and infesting home/kennels with transmissions occurring in Fairbanks and North Pole. Parasite prevention and treatment when traveling and in the home as well as information on zoonotic diseases will be emphasized. Come learn the facts and get practical tips to protect your family and pets against these health threats.
